Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to overhaul my cylinders?
For a set of four to six cylinders, it usually takes four weeks for a complete overhaul that includes welding, chrome or cerminil® plating.

I've heard you should not weld aircraft cylinders. Is this true?
No, as long as the repair is performed by a qualified welder with experience in welding aircraft cylinders.  Our company has been welding cylinders for over twenty years and our welding specifications are FAA approved.

Isn't it true that rebuilt cylinders sometimes have up to ten thousand hours on them?
This is what new cylinder manufacturers want you to believe. In most cases, aircraft cylinders do not last that long. A cylinder can be welded and repaired only a given number of times and still be air worthy. Sentry Aircraft Cylinders evaluates each cylinder prior to repair or overhaul to determine if it should be used again. Cylinders with excess metal erosion or excessive prior welds are rejected.
